Modaility

The SCYI program is designed to promote change by developing self-worth and personal responsibility, challenging individual attitudes and behaviour and encouraging the development of life and social skills.

The concept is that of mutual self-help, where the students live and work cooperatively with others at SCYI.

Residence in SCYI replaces the community setting from which the young person has come. Staff and the students are expected to uphold their part in the shared norms and values of SCYI. This is essential in the formation of SCYI and enables it to act as a healing force for all of the students. All program activities are designed to assist each student to learn, rehearse and consolidate new skills. Therapeutic interventions are aimed at assisting students to develop and maintain a healthy pro-social lifestyle. No bars are on windows, and the doors are not locked externally.
